As small towns across America work to breathe life back into their communities by maximizing their traditional downtowns, Zelienople aims to capitalize on its unique history, culture and architecture, creating a powerful catalyst for economic development. The Kaufman House Community Connection Campaign was developed to invite local businesses and community members to get involved in this historic revitalization project through customized partnership opportunities.
We are excited to announce the first partner to sign on to support the Kaufman House Community Connection Campaign!
The Roman family, long-time Zelienople residents, invested in the project by sponsoring guest room one, or the Roman Room, named in honor of Joseph M. “Red” Roman II who first moved to the area in 1937. In the 1960’s Red moved his own family and his business to Zelienople and was a well-known member of the community. Red’s son, Joseph Roman purchased the Roman Room at the Kaufman House in memory of his father and plans to decorate the room with his inventions, tools and photos of Red and his family at his Zelienople shop. When asked for words of wisdom in his nineties, Red said "a shot and a beer every day."
